Pinewood Derby

Posted on Jan 20 2012 - 1:41pm

If you have a sibling that wants to build a car, or would like to build one for yourself, we have extra kits you can purchase for $5 each.  Email Scott Ferrel at scott_ferrel@bellsouth.net about getting one.  Here are the rules for our pack race http://pack1000.net/system/files/PinewoodDerbyRulesPACK1000-0.pdf. Now is the time to take your son to Hobby Lobby or Michael's and look at the shapes or kits they sell to get some ideas he can incorporate into his design.  Also, pick up some weights you can attach to his final shape to make sure the car comes in at 5 ounces/142 grams.  We'll have weights for final adjustments at the check-in on the Friday night before the race, but not enough for each boy to add several ounces to his car.  Check out the stickers and decals selections to dress up his car after he paints it.  We are asking that each family bring a breakfast item for the boys to eat during the race on the 28th.  The pack will suplly coffee for adutls and juice for the boys. .

Happy New Year!

Posted on Jan 1 2012 - 8:11am

We hope all of you enjoyed the boys' time off from school and had a safe and happy celebration of the holidays.  If he worked on rank requirements, electives, or sports and academic belt loops or pins (see http://www.boyscouttrail.com/cub-scouts/acad-sports.asp for more details), make sure you let your son's den leader know so we can recognize him with the awards he has earned.  Several boys have already earned their badges for the year, and we'll recognize them at this month's Derby.  Take a look at the pack website calendar or the weekly eBlast email to see all the activities going on for your son's den and the pack.

Georgia Aquarium Trip Signup Deadline is December 23rd

Please signup by the 23rd if you would like to go on the Georgia Aquarium overnight trip next month. Trip details and registration are on the right-hand side of our website. It should be a great time for all who attend, with a view of the aquarium that most people don't get to see.  The cost is $93.04 per person, and payment is due by the 23rd also.

It's Pinewood Derby Time!

Posted on Dec 11 2011 - 6:14am

We'll be handing out the pinewood derby kits at the December pack meeting on the 12th. If you have a sibling that wants to build a car, or would like to build one for yourself, we have extra kits you can purchase for $5.  Here are the rules for our pack race http://pack1000.net/system/files/PinewoodDerbyRulesPACK1000-0.pdf. Please keep in mind, the point is to help your son design and build his car from this kit. Any Cub Scout cars built from kits purchased from Michael's, Hobby Lobby, or elsewhere, can still race but are excluded from winning a speed or design award.

Great Job Smahing Pumpkins!

Posted on Nov 6 2011 - 9:25am

Way to go Pack 1000 - community service for the church and fun all rolled into one.  For the 17 boys and their families who helped clean up the JCPC pumpkin patch, we had a great time loading up the trailer, breaking the pumpkins by throwing them down the hill behind the ball field, spreading hay bales, and stacking palettes for later use.  For those of you who missed it, there's always next year...

Rockets

Posted on Nov 6 2011 - 9:18am

Work on those Space Derby rockets!  We will fly them at the November pack meeting, along with our annual uniform inspection, pie throwing for the Web IIs who missed it because of the Rock Eagle trip, and some other fun and games.
